This Week on Due Process
It's a job that might fall under the caveat: Be careful what you wish for! But Peter Harvey beat out two dozen candidates for the job - and he says he can't wait to get to work.
After three years as New Jersey attorney general, Harvey has spent more than a decade as a partner in a prestige New York law firm, a world away from the streets of Newark.
But, for as long as the next 5 years, Harvey will be splitting his time between the Patterson Belknap firm and the Newark Police.
He's the court-approved, Department of Justice-appointed federal monitor, charged with overseeing the daunting task of reforming law enforcement in Newark in the wake of a federal probe that found widespread unconstitutional stops, excessive violence and bias, even theft of evidence by police.
Peter Harvey says he thinks all that can change, when he joins me for his first interview since being named Newark monitor.
Hope you'll join us, too.
